Botanical name: Terminalia amazonia (Combretaceae)

Amarillo is one of the biggest trees in the jungle. This noble tree can grow up to 70 m (230 ft) tall and achieve 1.5 m (5 ft) in trunk diameter. The trunk is long, straight and unbranched until the top. A mature tree has large buttresses resembling tense neck tendons on the lower part of the trunk.

THE FRAGRANT FLOWERS AND THE WINGED FRUITS

Amarillo blooms and bears fruit from February to May. The flowers are white or greenish with a pleasant scent. The tree sheds its leaves during the dry season but turns back to green as soon as the rainy season begins. The fruits are small- under 2 cm (0.7 inch) long capsules with tiny white wings.
